Just vs Punitive Culture

Dr. James Reason was the pioneer in developing the theory of a Just Culture. At its core, a Just Culture fosters an atmosphere of trust where employees feel compelled to report situations and behaviors that need improvement. This culture is not about tolerating poor performance, but rather learning from unintentional errors to enhance overall safety and efficiency. It's also not about looking the other way when deviations occur. A Fair & Just Culture establishes a balance between creating a learning environment, while also addressing willful/negligent behaviors as necessary.

HiReli's consultants are dedicated to teaching the concepts of Just Culture and assisting in the development of Just Culture policies. More importantly, we focus on creating a psychologically safe workplace where employees feel secure enough to speak up about errors and near-misses.
